Bosnian Pyramid Of Sun

Filed under: Neeews — Realest @ 12:37 pm

In Visoko North from Sarajevo there is already 2000-3000 daily visitors who want to see Bosnian Pyramid, the first Pyramid in Europe. I collected some headlines and images from internet.
I surely wanted to know what National Geographic says about Bosna Pyramid, cause i expect a documentary :) . Well they say nothing important.
on Theage.com.au they say:
“The hill is quite symmetrical, and the theory that it was once a pyramid is supported by preliminary investigations.
If true, it would rewrite world history, putting Europe alongside South America and of course Egypt as homes of ancient pyramids.”

Does Pyramid exists ? Is there a proof ? Well they digging it for sure so time will tell.
“Archeologists and other experts began digging at the central Bosnian town of Visoko last week to explore the theory that the 2,120-foot hill covers a step pyramid, which would be the first found in Europe.”

Chernobyl’s effect on Europe

Filed under: Neeews — Realest @ 10:29 am

“Radiation is no respecter of national boundaries,” says Ian Fairlie, one of the authors of the report.
The study predicted roughly 30,000 to 60,000 cancer deaths by the end of this century related to Chernobyl, which it said was significantly higher than estimates by the WHO and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The report echoed findings by environmental group Greenpeace, which said on Tuesday the death toll from the disaster 20 years ago could be far higher than official estimates, with up to 93,000 extra cancer deaths worldwide.

Read all story on Reuters.

This is just bad, and today people still work on nuclear weapons, that`s a shame.
Just to think of that bomb explodes and all other countries are deathly afected…..

US bus cleaner retires aged 100

Filed under: Interesting, Neeews — ramone_ @ 10:13 am

A Los Angeles man who worked cleaning buses for the Metropolitan Transport Authority for 76 years has finally called it quits on his 100th birthday.

Arthur Winston was only absent for one day during his working life – when his wife died in 1988.

In 1996, Mr Winston was honoured by former US President Bill Clinton as “Employee of the Century”.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
In the same year, LA’s transport authority renamed its South Bay bus depot the “Arthur Winston division”.
Born in Oklahoma, he began picking cotton when he was 10.

But several harvests were lost to droughts and storms, forcing the family to head west. In 1924 he found work with the Pacific Electric Railway Co.

Mr Winston told the BBC he had seen many changes over the years and that life had definitely improved.

“We got away from the horse and buggy days,” he said.

In recent years, Mr Winston led a team of 11 service attendants. Every day they fuelled and washed dozens of buses.

He said he had seen generations of co-workers come and go but he never felt he was missing out on a “gentle retirement”.

“I just kept on going. I’d rather be moving, working or doing something than laying around the house,” he said.

‘Not in his DNA’

Mr Winston’s great-niece said he had never been late for work and had an impeccable record in terms of safety.

“His fellow employees have always looked up to him. He has shown us he is a man of integrity and honour, and provided us with a good model of work ethics,” Yvette Chappell-Ingram said.

Mr Winston has no definite plans for retirement but said he wants to keep busy – possibly working with senior citizens. He is also planning to travel to Tennessee to visit his 98-year-old brother.

“We’ve never encouraged him not to work because that’s not him – it’s not in his DNA,” Ms Chappell-Ingram said.

Study: Jesus Walked on Ice, Not Water

Filed under: Neeews — ramone_ @ 11:16 am

Jesus may not have actually walked on water: he may have skated on an
isolated, hard to see piece of ice, according to a study on the weather and water conditions in
northern Israel in Jesus’ time.

Jesus Doron Nof, professor of Oceanography at Florida
State University, and colleagues report in the
April issue of the Journal of Paleolimnology
(the study of prehistoric lakes), that a rare
combination of water and atmospheric conditions
in northern Israel could have led to the
formation of “springs ice” on the surface of the
Sea of Galilee, now known as Lake Kinneret.

Nof’s team examined the dynamics of a small
section of Lake Kinneret comprising about 10,000
square feet near the salty springs that empty
into it. Currently, ice may form there only once
every thousand years.

However, temperatures were
much lower in the region 2,000 years ago.

so there was no miracle at all?!? i’m very disappointed ;) , maybe he was on skates, who knows, maybe that was his miracle ;)

San Francisco to Turn Dog Poop Into

Filed under: Neeews — ramone_ @ 9:43 am

Your house powered by pooch poop?

The idea may sound far-fetched, but officials in dog-friendly San Francisco, California, hope to harness the power of methane in doggie doo so it can be used for heating homes and generating electricity.

The technology of turning animal waste into energy was introduced in Europe some 20 years ago. It’s practiced by hundreds of farms there, as well as by 16 U.S. dairy farms.

But San Francisco is believed to be the first U.S. city to explore the energy potential of pet waste.

In a pilot program to start this year, Norcal Waste, a garbage company that collects the city’s trash, plans to use biodegradable bags and dog-waste carts to pick up the poop in one of San Francisco’s most popular dog parks.

The waste will be run through a methane digester, a tank in which bacteria break down the feces to create methane. This biofuel can then be piped directly to a gas stove, heater, or anything else powered by natural gas.

“Scraping dog poop off your shoe, now that’s something most people have been frustrated with for a long time,” said Robert Reed, a Norcal spokesperson.

“Now we have an opportunity to turn this nuisance into something positive.”

From Food Scraps to Dog Doo

Known for its green credentials, San Francisco already uses several recycling programs to divert almost two-thirds of its household garbage away from landfills. The city aims to divert all of its waste from landfills by 2020.

The poop-to-methane project is an extension of another bio-recycling program the city initiated ten years ago, when it began collecting food scraps from houses and restaurants and turning them into fertilizer for vineyards and organic farms.

Today 300 tons (272 metric tons) of food scraps are collected every day from more than 2,000 restaurants and tens of thousands of homes.

How Americans Use Their Cell Phones

Filed under: Neeews — ramone_ @ 4:34 pm

The cell phone has become an integral and, for some, essential communications tool that has helped owners gain help in emergencies. Fully 74% of the Americans who own mobile phones say they have used their hand-held device in an emergency and gained valuable help.

Another striking impact of mobile technology is that Americans are using their cell phones to shift they way they spend their time. Some 41% of cell phone owners say they fill in free time when they are traveling or waiting for someone by making phone calls. And 44% say they wait to make most of their cell calls for the hours when they do not count against their “anytime” minutes in their basic calling plan.

At the same time, there are new challenges associated with cell phone use. More than a quarter of cell phone owners (28%) admit they sometimes do not drive as safely as they should while they use their mobile devices. Among cell phone users, men (32%) are more likely than women (25%) to admit they sometimes don’t drive as safely as they should.

Furthermore, 82% of all Americans and 86% of cell users report being irritated at least occasionally by loud and annoying cell users who conduct their calls in public places.

Indeed, nearly one in ten cell phone owners (8%) admit they themselves have drawn criticism or irritated stares from others when they are using their cell phones in public.

For some, the cell phone has become so central to their communications needs that they lose track of the expenses associated with their phones. Some 36% of cell owners say they have been shocked from time to time at the size of their monthly bills.

Bug-Eating Robots

Filed under: Neeews — ramone_ @ 9:34 am

At the Bristol Robotics Laboratory in England, researchers are designing
their newest bug-eating robot—Ecobot III.

The device is the latest in a series of small robots to emerge from the lab that are powered by a diet of insects and other biomass.

“We all talk about robots being able to do stuff on their own, being intelligent and autonomous,” said lab director Chris Melhuish.

“But the truth of the fact is that without energy, they can’t do anything at all.”

Most robots today draw that energy from electrical cords, solar panels, or batteries. But in the future some robots will need to operate beyond the reach of power grids, sunlight, or helping human hands.

Melhuish and his colleagues think such release-and-forget robots can satisfy their energy needs the same way wild animals do—by foraging for food.

“Animals are the proof that this is possible,” he said.

Bug-munching Bots

Over the last decade, Melhuish’s team has produced a string of bots powered by sugar, rotten apples, or dead flies.

The biomass is converted into electricity through a series of stomachlike microbial fuel cells, or MFCs.

Living batteries, MFCs generate power from colonies of bacteria that release electrons as the microorganisms digest plant and animal matter. (Electricity is simply a flow of electrons.)

The lab’s first device, named Slugbot, was an artificial predator that hunted for common garden slugs.
