Hustle & Flow is like a Christmas tree so adorned with beautiful ornaments that it obscures the scrawny, plastic base that’s holding the whole thing up. This second feature from writer/director Craig Brewer is a standard Rocky story, an up-from-the-bootstraps tale of DJay (Terrence Howard) a Memphis pimp who dreams of becoming a rapper.
