Boyz N the Hood is an amazing movie based on true events that took place in a very violent neighborhood in East L.A. The story is about 3 black men brought up in a violent comunity of Eastern Los Angelas. (Cuba Gooding Jr.) has lost a friend who was murderd by a horible East L.A. gang.
this movie is about one of the toughest hooods in the whole of america where if the cops and coke don’t get you then the guns will probably will.
Dealing with drugs, violence, crime and back-stabbing the centeral characters, who are all played by the biggest stars of Hip-Hop and R’n'B music, they become devoured by the dark undrerworld that surrounds them. DMX takes lead in the film, and further proves himself as a gritty, realistic and believable actor. Starring opposite him is Nas, who supports his fellow lead star with ease and confidence. Other big music artists here include rapper Method Man who displays his years of success in the industry with a mature performance. Star of TLC, T-Boz, makes her big movie debut and holds her own against the more established members of the cast proving herself as a possible movie star of tommorow.
Directed by Music Video royalty, Hype Williams, the photography here is sleek, sexy and very modern. The film has, however, been critised by many and labelled simply a ‘two hour music video’. The movie was released in USA theatres in 1998, a DVD and Video release followed. In 2003, a new edition of the DVD was released which featured new footage, deleted scenes and a whole host of features from on the set of the movie and more. Check your local retailers, and online retailers, for your copy of the newly released and definitive edition of the film.

“Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking your Juice in the Hood” is a parody of a lot of Afro-American movies, for instance “Boyz N the Hood”, “South Central”, “Menace II Society”, “Higher Learning” and “Juice”. We follow Ashtray as he returns to the place he grew up in and meet his father and his basket-case friends. A lot of crazy stuff happens, for example, Ashtray is older than his father and his best friend Loc Dog’s grandmother is a trigger-happy old lady who blames her eccentric-looking kid for not being tough enough.
Parody of “life in the hood” movies pokes fun at the attitudes and characters that are quickly becoming cliches in the genre. Shawn Wayans plays G-next-door Ashtray, sent by his mother to discover “what it is to be a man” from his father in South Central L.A. He hooks up with his homey Loc Dog (Marlon Wayans), a gun-crazed beer-swilling gangsta who packs a nuclear warhead. As the title implies, almost every major black film in recent memory is given the Wayans’ drive-by treatment, with a majority of the plot lifted from “Boyz N the Hood.” Fans of the TV series “In Living Color” will love this twisted look at ghetto life, but others may be offended.

Hustle & Flow is like a Christmas tree so adorned with beautiful ornaments that it obscures the scrawny, plastic base that’s holding the whole thing up. This second feature from writer/director Craig Brewer is a standard Rocky story, an up-from-the-bootstraps tale of DJay (Terrence Howard) a Memphis pimp who dreams of becoming a rapper.
