Topographic map of the Earth

METI and NASA created topographic map that covers 99% of the world with about 1 million images huh.
The data is available to everyone.
I just registered on http://www.gdem.aster.ersdac.or.jp/index.jsp and tried to get topographic map from Yugoslavia, and download is very slow since the release was on 29.07.2009. and they noted.
The server of ASTER GDEM distribution site is extremely busy with many accesses at the moment.

This data can tell the temperature of the surface, the condition of the surface and it could prevent Volcano eruptions, floods, maybe earthqukes.

I am simply boring and interested in this kind of stuff, i wonder if historical data is viewable and also where to find geological data, i want it all
